Liverpool and Stevie G - sort it out!?!??

Inevitably my gripe this morning is over the headlines regarding Steven Gerrard and Liverpool FC. Gerrard is said to have had a fall-out with manager Rafael Benitez, the subject of which I do not know and no media have yet explained, but they seemed to have learned of it. The club have dragged themselves over offering an improved contract. Rick Parry went away on holiday before putting something down for Gerrard to at least ponder over. Gerrard is said to have come in privately to Melwood training ground to do some solo training, had the fall-out with Benitez, and continued going through his paces with assistant Paco Esteban as both he and Benitez fumed. And finally, all avenues to any talks between club and player have apparently been permanently severed on Gerrard's word to his agency, SFX.

Perhaps SFX are pushing Gerrard to niggle the club for much more, the captain is a prized asset in the football world and could barter for a high price. A price that SFX sense Liverpool cannot, or will struggle to, match, therefore leading to a stand-off and possibly to an eventual cease on talks. We have just won the top trophy in European football over a month ago with a dramatic comeback, it was the win that incited Gerrard to want to stay, it was the win we needed to persuade him to stay. To go through that and then eventually see him leave under terse circumstances would be completely throwing away one of England's best players and the pinnacle of the kind of drive we need at Anfield. The one player isnt bigger than the club but for goodness sake the situation is becoming a calamitous farce. Gerrard cannot be allowed to leave because of silly little disagreements.

The one thing I wouldn't put up with is Gerrard being pushed to squeeze the club by his agency, or on his own accord. If Gerrard wants to go, then fair enough. Otherwise, if Liverpool are playing about, they better well straighten up and get down to business, or face the wrath of their fans.

Gerrard is going to Chelsea. And has been all along. And the sooner we get shot -the better. He scored an own goal deliberatley against them in The Carling Cup final- and played very poorly in the Champions League games.
Our new captain -Carra. will lead us into a new era with.Rafa.
We do not want the scab, any more!

EH - you must out of your mind to say that he deliberatly scored an own goal. we all could see his eyes what he felt when he realised what the goal did to the team. and he was not happy, that i can tell you!!

pick your fight with someone else!

Gerrard has been playing in two minds for one and a half seasons and that alone shows both a disrespect to the Club and his team mates, as well as a lack of commitment to the club for the future. £30 million plus for Gerrard - I say sell him. This is football guys, and as good a player as Gerrard is, he IS replaceable. Think of the players that could be bought with that money. By keeping him and paying him the money he, and his agents, want, Liverpool are sacrificing more than one world class player they could buy.

Gerrard has been a liability waiting to happen for a while, and his constant two-mindedness has helped demoralise some team mates more than they deserved. Why should the Club do whatever it takes to keep him when we do not even know how much that is.

Come on, think about it. If he wanted to stay and was truly committed, he would never have said he needs to wait to see, not once. What if we had lost in the final in Istanbul. Then this drama would never be happening and Gerrard would have already been off. If he could not commit a year ago when all this started, he should go now while he is worth as much as he is and let the club rebuild and move on. REMEMBER THIS - Owen left under similar circumstances and we won the champions league without him. If Stevie leaves, we will build a team with the money that will be capable of winning more and more every season.

I say good bye Steve, thanks but no thanks. I look forward to the true comitted players who will come in and lead our team to eternal glory season in and season out.

I believe that SFX is F*&% the deal.
Stevie G would die to stay.
Rafa and Stevie should sit down without SFX and work it out for the good of club and Stevie. Otherwise he can go but Rafa must bring in some talent to man the midfield.

No player should be bigger than the club. If he or for that matter SFX think that there is a better deal elsewhere, so be it. One thing for sure, he will not be enjoying first team football or be as idolised anywhere else like he is at Anfield. He kept on saying that he wants to win things. NEWSFLASH: So does LFC.

Stevie G. is a typical english modern day footballer. Overhyped, overrated, overpaid.
These english players get together in the english squad and start bragging how much they earn. They have stupid , trophy girlfriends.
They are a disgrace. All of them! Cole, Ferdinand, Downing, Johnson, Owen, Beckham and Erikson.
Carra - is a proper man. And a proper captain.
You watch the sweat running of his forehead after a match - compared to that -of the bloody disgrace that has become SG.
Rafa should transfer list the liar and mixer. He is constanly in turmoil- therefore WE ARE CONSTANTLY IN TURMOIL.
Get shot of the dog- and get shot quick!
Who the **** does he think he is?
We are ******* Liverpool Football Club!

People, are you saying that his expression after Istanbul was just under the guise of his enjoyment of the moment? Was it, in other words, that he was merely excited about the win and knew he would need to discuss things with SFX before approaching the club? Is it really LFC who are stalling on an improvement? Does he really want more money??

No doubt SFX have a string or two pulling. So far their links to Real have brought nothing for the Galacticos - Beckham, Owen, Woodgate, McManaman, Gravesen. A midfield of Beckham and Zidane with Gravesen, Owen up front and yet nothing, that stinks.

Chelsea want Gerrard because they can afford to buy him. A midfield of Gerrard, Makelele, Lampard, Duff, Robben, Jarosik, Smertin, Geremi...too many cooks. Haven't they got enough midfielders? Adding Gerrard puts him where in the equation? Behind Lampard, when both are relatively the same performance wise? I can't see Gerrard at Chelsea. Wasn't Kezman the leading scorer in the Dutch league??

If it's a bidding war SFX want, they are putting Stevie G on the fire and passing him to the highest bidder whose cash douses the flames. The captain should realise this, SFX are more concerned with money than his future. His blood is with the club. IF he goes, then it's for £35m, no players in return. But he should stay and I feel he will, because you don't get to be Stevie G anywhere else as he does at Anfield. He's the Emlyn Hughes of today.

Stevie G is staying.

It's time for Gerrard to GO! I don't deny the fact that he's done a lot for the club especially a big part towards us winning the Champions League last month but his constant threats and unconvincing loyalty to the club shows that he's taking everyone at the club for a ride! I mean SFX must be partly the cause for him stalling the contract for such a long time but he's no 5 year old to not be able to make his mind up. If its true the way he says at times that the he want's to win trophy's with the club he grew up with, I don't understand why is it that he hasn't signed till now.
No one is bigger than their employer and this rule also is the same in football..NO player is bigger than the club and dictate things. I don't see any other player at LFC doing this. Player's like Carra surely shames Gerrard when it comes to commitment and loyalty.
It's time to milk an unhappy "cow" and use the money for the betterment of the club. Let him go where ever he wants but it's no gurantee that it's going to bring him definate succes!

I agree Gerrard has been messing the club around for 18 month to 2 years. The constant links with Chelsea, and now Real Madrid, have had a negative effect on the team. He said he wanted to win things. We got to a League Cup final, which we lost with not a little help from Gerrard himself. We win the Champions Cup, and suddenly he definitely wants to stay. What if we don't win anything next year. Does this farce start again? We can't win the Champions League every year, if that is what it takes to keep him.

Liverpool seem to in control of the situation. Which is the way it should be. If a player wants to leave, let them put in a transfer request. They don't because they would lose their "loyalty bonus" and lose money. Their agents start manoeuvering the press.

I personally would sell him and get the money. We have one of the best managers in the world, who has one hand tied with regards to available funds. If a player is not 100% for the Liverpool cause, regardless of how many cups we're winning, sell him.

Let me correct, for the record, that Steve McManaman and Thomas Gravesen have not been represented by SFX. I received that information from an unreliable source and have found that it was untrue.
