EFT player of the month for September: Andrew Johnson!

Although Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba featured prominently in the voting among the five-man panel, the EFT Player of the Month award for September goes to Everton's £8.6m summer signing from Crystal Palace: Andrew Johnson.

With four goals in four Premierhip matches in the month of September - including two in Everton's 3-0 defeat of Merseyside neighbours Liverpool - Johnson has spearheaded Everton's impressive unbeaten start to the season. In total he has scored six goals in the opening seven Premiership matches and look set to emulate his goals total in the 2004-2005 season for Palace when he scored 21 Premiership goals in their relegation campaign.

All in all, Andrew Johnson has the significant qualities of electric pace, a cool finish in front of goal, and a natural striker's instinct to be in the right place at the right time to suggest that there are plenty more prolific months of goal-scoring to come for him this season.

What an acquisition. Johnson had shown good loyalty to Crystal Palace and remained in the Championship but seemed to have constantly but secretly harboured a return to the EPL. Everton gave him that chance and he is repaying them. Johnson also harbours a yearning for an England start, so I wonder what would happen if given the chance.

On the subject of Everton slightly, James McFadden is tipped to star for Scotland today. I wll be hammered by my French friends but I am routing for a 2-2 draw, if not a Scotland win, against one of the best in Europe, arguably the world.

No offence to Andy and i think he has been 1 of the best summer signings and is on fire at the moment but is this like the 2nd time that a man utd player got overlooked for the award while they are on top of the table? I think Ronaldo has been simply outstanding for man utd this season and played a very important part in their success especially since they had to make do without Rooney and Scholes at the start of the season and Giggs at the moment. Well with rooney yet to discover his best form it was Ronaldo that has been setting the epl on fire. Well he also played a big part in man utd's win in the cl and also scored twice for Portugal so im sorry but Ronaldo should be the player of the month

You made a valid point, Anon (6.27AM). Ronaldo has been quite exceptional so far this season and his work rate has been on a par with Johnson's, if not more. The CL league and internationals are kept aside as the choice is based on the performances in the EPL alone. For myself, I chose Johnson because of his influence on an Everton side that lacked the very conviction they have right now and I believe Johnson is the reason for that. Man Utd had Rooney and Scholes absent for three games and Ronaldo has carried the torch for them but they also had the likes of Saha, Solskjaer, and Giggs before his injury.

[Sorry, nilsatis, had to slightly amend your comment:]

Andy Johnson all the way, you can put your Ronaldo up your commercial glory hunter supported club arse and look forward to AJ spanking you silly when we meet. Contrary to what you believe, the world does not revolve around Man Utd. That long necked ladyboy gobshite Ronaldo is a cheat and deserves the same as what you will win this season, f*** all.

Yes anon (6.27am), you make valid points for the case of Ronaldo and I must reiterate he was very close in the voting.

Pains me to say this, but I think he fully deserved it. :)

Great post nilsatis. Made me laugh. I think you may have 'issues' though.

Love and light,
