Mclaren proves disastrous for England, as do the players
England were abysmal against Croatia and deserved not to qualify for Euro 2008. The fact is that the FA didn't want Mclaren as national coach in the first place because they knew he wouldn't be good for England, but they had to give him the job because they failed to lure Scolari to the job.
The FA knew then that Mclaren was not good enough for England.
The players also must share the blame. I have never seen such an abysmal performance and to be honest, it been going on for far too long now. It seems that whatever system England play, or whomever the personnel are, it simply does not work. Nobody can seem to get 11 English players playing good football. England have not been able to get the basics right and that has been their downfall.
England now need a major change. Mclaren must go and so too must some of the players.

Totally agree. The FA need to grow a pair and the players need to learn some pride. A lack of skill they cannot entirely help, but a lack of passion...
Too many greedy self indulgent self important wannabe celebrities in the team (and football in general).
About time to promote half the under 21's and let them bed in before the next World Cup, providing we get there of course. After all we may end up in a qualifying group with footballing giants such as Malta, Luxemburg and the Channel Islands, so better not count our chickens just yet!!

Maybe people should vote with their feet and subsequently their money and stop going to crappy England games, especially the dreary and pointless friendlies. Then the FA might actually provide some decent management etc for the team.
Also why the hell did we play that friendly on the Friday before the Croatia game? What a total balls up of a decision. McClaren and his bosses at the FA have got to be the most incompetent senior memebers of such an organisation in the world! That was a chance for the players to take some time out to prepare for the Croatia game, put in extra training and work on tactics, and also have a rest after a hectic first couple months of the season. But no we have to have yet another friendly. No point whatsoever apart from making some more money. All it accomplished was to crock Owen. Great exercise that was!!
I would love it if people would just stop going to these matches. They have to earn your support and they currently don't. This may not sound very patriotic, but they're not interested in that either. They want to make money and thats it.

England got exactly what they deserved. There are so many things wrong with the England set up. I think it is a good thing that England did not qualify, it will make them wake up and smell the coffee and not put paper over the cracks.
