Owen/Gerrard swap deal?

I am a bit disturbed by some of the latest transfer talk. Michael Owen has once again reiterated his frustration at being left on the bench for Real so often this season and has suggested that he wouldn't rule out a return to Liverpool. Rafael Benitez has also had his thoughts saying he would welcome Owen's return. When Owen was sold to Real at the start of the season rumours were flying about that Liverpool had given Real first option on Gerrard. With Everton once again moving four points ahead of Liverpool in the league today it is becoming increasingly likely that Liverpool will not grab that fourth spot. If so, clubs like Real and Chelsea are likely to tempt Gerrard who will certainly be on his way if Liverpool do not qualify for the Champions League. We all know Real will do anything to get the player they want and so it would not surprise me if they tempted Lverpool into a cash+player deal to get Gerrard, with that player being Owen.

Sounds about right cash+owen deal to get Gerrard. Baros to Valencia, with either Pablo Aimar or Vicente going the other way, possibly a straight swap.

The "rumours" that Liverpool had given Real first option on Gerrard was when we bought Nando not when Owen went and it was total sh@@e that Real made up to try and unsettle Gerrard just like all the press are trying to do now by saying he's already signed for Chelski. Theres no way Owen will come back in a swap deal with Gerrard, if anything us buying Owen back will be one of the reasons Gerrard may stay!

I cant see Owen going back to Liverpool after just one season away. I strongly fancy Arsenal to sign him in the summer and I think he would be great with Henry up front.

I also cant imagine Gerrard at Real Madrid. Gerrard could probably have the pick of clubs across Europe and (unless yesterday's result in the Gran Classico sparks them into life) there is no reason for Gerrard to choose the Bernabeau as his next home.

Well, Owen isn't one to go for one season and then go somewhere else, much less return. He can command a place practically in any side. Real can play about with him by sticking him on the bench but the crowd know of his potential and it cannot continue where Raul and Ronaldo struggle to score.

As for Gerrard, I believe he has seen some light in Liverpool. He saw this during the Merseyside derby and while the jury are still in on whether he will leave or not, or even agreed to join Chelsea, he won't be going to Real or any side out of England. Not Man Utd, either Arsenal or Chelsea and I would wager on Chelsea. From the heart, I hope he stays, Owen can decide whether he wants to leave Real.

All this constant speculation must be affecting team morale. I think Stevie and Baros will leave in the summer and if they do that it will be good for the club. With that £40m+ we can strengthen the side in some key areas and buy ourselves 4-5 players of the calibre of Alonso. A lot will depend on us getting 4th place as its a big way to attract top players. I could see him going to Real Madrid, not in exchange for, but to play with Owen.
